If you are referring a couple, it is very much appreciated if both individuals are provided with a referral or their names are included on the one referral.

Prior Investigations

I would be grateful if you could arrange the following investigations before the patient consulted with me.


It would be fantastic if you could copy me in to receive the results of these investigations so I can review them before the patient’s appointment.

I am happy to see any patient who has not yet had any of the following tests performed, and I will arrange them, as required. 


Elective Egg Freezing

For women who would like to undergo elective egg freezing:

  • Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH)
  • Full blood count (FBC)
  • Serology (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis)
  • STD screening (Chlamydia & gonorhoea urine PCR)
  • LH / FSH / oestradiol (ideally day 2-4 of menstrual cycle)
  • B-hCG (if sexually active)
  • Pelvic ultrasound with antral follicle count (ideally at a specialist women’s ultrasound practice such as Sydney Ultrasound for Women or Ultrasound Care; a link to a referral form is below)


Female Fertility

For women planning a pregnancy with subfertility:

  • Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH)
  • Full blood count (FBC)
  • Blood group & antibodies
  • Serology (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis)
  • Rubella IgG
  • Varicella IgG
  • Iron studies
  • HbEPG
  • Karyotype
  • LH / FSH / oestradiol (ideally day 2-4 of menstrual cycle)
  • B-hCG 
  • TSH
  • Cervical screening test (if not up to date)
  • STD screening (Chlamydia & gonorrhea urine PCR)
  • Pelvic ultrasound with antral follicle count (ideally at a specialist women’s ultrasound practice such as Sydney Ultrasound for Women or Ultrasound Care; a link to a referral form is below)
  • HyCoSy to check tubal patency, specialist women’s ultrasound practices can conduct this test simultaneously with the pelvic ultrasound.


PCOS or Irregular Period

For women with irregular periods or suspected polycystic ovarian syndrome, please add these additional blood tests:

  • Testosterone (total)
  • Free androgen index (FAI)
  • Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)
  • Androstenedione
  • DHEAS
  • 17OH progesterone
  • LH / FSH / oestradiol / progesterone (these can be conducted at a random time in the menstrual cycle)
  • Fasting glucose level, HbA1C or GTT
  • B-hCG (if sexually active)


Miscarriages

For women with a history of two or more miscarriages, please add these additional blood tests:

  • Anti-cardiolipin antibodies
  • Lupus anticoagulant
  • Beta 2 glycoprotein
  • TSH, T4, T3, Thyroid antibody tests (anti-TPO, thyroglobulin)


Unexpected Low Ovarian Reserve

For women with an unexpectedly low ovarian reserve, please add in these additional blood tests:

  • Karyotype
  • T3, T4, Thyroid antibody tests (anti-TPO, thyroglobulin)
  • Fragile X testing
  • LH / FSH / oestradiol / progesterone (ideally, these would be done around day 2-4 of the menstrual cycle, however, if menses are irregular, they can be conducted at a random time in the menstrual cycle)


Male Partners

For the male partner:

  • Full blood count (FBC)
  • Iron studies
  • HbEPG
  • Serology (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis)
  • Karyotype
  • STD screening (Chlamydia & gonorrhea urine PCR)
  • Semen analysis (this can be conducted at Monash IVF, a link to the referral form is below)


Azoospermia

For men with azoospermia or severe oligospermia, please add these additional blood tests:

  • LH
  • FSH
  • Testosterone (total) – please tell the patient to have blood for this test taken before 10 am as testosterone levels fluctuate during the day, and results from tests taken later are difficult to interpret.
  • Oestradiol
  • Prolactin
  • Karyotype
  • Y chromosome microdeletions (AZFa, AZFb, AZFc)
  • Cystic fibrosis testing
  • Testicular ultrasound (looking for the size of the testes, varicoceles, and presence of the vas deferens; this can be conducted at most radiology firms)
  • Repeat semen analysis with a post-ejaculatory void analysis (see below for referral form)


Female Partners

For a female partner (who is not intending to provide eggs for treatment and not planning to carry a pregnancy):

  • Serology (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis)
  • STD screening (Chlamydia & gonorrhea urine PCR)


The above blood tests can be conducted at Sydney pathology companies such as Douglass Hanly Moir (DHM), Laverty or Australian Clinical Labs.

Common Questions 

  • How long does it take to get an appointment?

    We will see most patients within 2 weeks of referral. Rapid Access Appointments (within 24-48 hours) are available to patients with a confirmed or strongly suspected diagnosis of breast cancer or melanoma. we have regular operating lists at all 3 private hospitals and waiting times for surgery are 1 to 2 weeks. 

  • Which hospitals do our Doctors operate at?

    Our doctors operate in the private system, also operates in the public system 

  • Does the practice bulk bill?

    There is an initial consultation fee to see our doctors in the consulting rooms 

    There are reduced rates for Pensioners and Health Care cardholders. 

    Follow-up consultations are bulk-billed. 

    Our doctors also run a fortnightly bulk-billing clinic

  • Does we provide GP Education sessions?

    Yes. we meet local GPs and can visit your practice for a Lunch & Learn session. Please contact the practice to arrange. 

    You may also wish to subscribe to GP Update, our newsletter for general practitioners. 

  • What investigations are required for patients with a new diagnosis of breast cancer?

    Breast imaging (mammogram and ultrasound) and biopsy are the standard ‘minimum’ investigations. Our doctor will arrange further investigations (including blood tests and staging scans) if required.
